Major Renovations to the Memoria Bellechasse Complex
Project Description
A modernized funeral complex designed to provide brighter, more open, and welcoming spaces.
Located on Bellechasse Street in Montréal, Alfred Dallaire MEMORIA’s Bellechasse funeral complex underwent a major transformation to modernize its facilities and create spacious, open environments, including large reception lounges, a fireplace lounge, a terrace, and new administrative offices.
Services Provided
DPHV provided structural engineering services for the project, including the extensive reconfiguration of the ground floor to create large open spaces, the assessment and reinforcement of the existing wood structure, and the upgrading of the building to meet current code requirements.
Key challenges included increasing the floor load capacity to accommodate public assembly occupancy with large open areas, integrating a new elevator, achieving compliance with current seismic standards, and incorporating new structural elements such as bracing systems and a reinforced concrete staircase, all while maintaining the stability of the existing structure.
