HOLIDAY INN & CANDLEWOOD HOTEL

Granby (QC)

Project Description

Groupe Robin’s new hotel complex in Granby brings together the Holiday Inn Express & Suites and Candlewood Suites brands. Designed with sustainability in mind and targeting LEED certification, the four-storey property features 128 accommodations, including 83 guest rooms and 45 studios, as well as a fitness centre, indoor pool, outdoor terrace, laundry facilities and breakfast area.

With a building footprint of approximately 19,500 sq. ft., the structure is supported on conventional reinforced concrete foundations and consists primarily of light wood-frame construction. To minimize excavation costs and take advantage of the good bearing capacity of the existing native soils, a slab-on-grade with thickened sections beneath the interior load-bearing walls was selected as the foundation system, rather than foundation walls supported on continuous strip footings.

The structure also incorporates several structural steel areas. The two canopies at the main entrance and the two independent stairwells are constructed of steel. The two-car elevator shaft also incorporates structural steel elements required to support the elevator equipment. Finally, the single-storey pool area is structurally independent from the hotel and features a hot-dip galvanized steel structure suited to the high-humidity conditions of the pool environment.
